Balance -
Refers to the way in which the elements of a piece are arranged
Symmetrical – elements are given equal “weight” from an imaginary line in the center of the piece
Asymmetrical – elements are placed unevenly in a piece, but work together to produce overall harmony

Line -
A continuous mark made on a surface
Can define a space, create an outline or pattern, imply movement or texture, and allude to mass or volume
Shape -
Enclosed space defined and determined by other elements (line, color, value, texture)
TWO-dimensional
Organic – natural shapes, less defined
Geometric – clear edges, straight lines
