Project 2: Australian Aboriginal Art

Materials:

Black paper
Paint, markers, oil pastels, etc.
Student Sketchbook Art Concepts:
Line
Space – negative & positive
Balance

Objective:

Students will understand basic Australian Aboriginal culture and create an original piece of artwork based on Aboriginal design concepts, including the nine types of lines.

Step 1: Teacher presentation

Friday, August 17, and Monday, August 20.

Step 2: QUIZ!!

Monday, August 20.

Step 3: Discussion and sketching

Students should sketch at least three designs and decide which one to use on the final project (or combine them all).

Step 4:

Creating the project
This will take one or two class periods.

Due Date:

Project must be complete at the beginning of class Wednesday, August 22.

Grading Criteria:

Completion by due date
Amount of art coverage on the paper
Use of the nine types of lines studied
Degree to which artwork reflects student’s personal journey or place
